How the Website Started
When the original Aquarius Ballroom in Hednesford closed due to the redevelopment of the area, I decided to create a very simple one-page website. The idea was to help local dancers stay in touch and keep everyone informed about where our favourite dances had moved to, so that we could continue meeting up and enjoying our shared love of dancing.
For many years, the website was completely free to use, with no charge for advertising events. As time has gone by, however, the costs of running and maintaining the website have increased, so I now ask advertisers to make a small contribution towards those running costs.
MyBallroom.co.uk remains a non-profit website. My time, however, is — and always will be — given completely free of charge.
The original Aquarius Ballroom was home to Saturday night dances hosted by many familiar names, including Colin & Rita Corbett, Heather Roberts, Umbrella Man, David & Sylvia Webster, and Graham Darby, to name just a few. It was a wonderful venue that created many happy memories and lasting friendships.
Today, the new Aquarius Ballroom stands just a couple of hundred yards from the original site. It offers all the comforts of a modern venue, including a superb dance floor, licensed bar, lift access, and ample free parking, ensuring that the tradition of dancing in Hednesford continues for many years to come.
